  • (Guy Rickards): Sæverud BIS-CD1032:....not least the Divertimento for flute and orchestra (1939), delightfully blown here by Vidar Austvik.
Flute Talk, oktober-2006
  • (Julie Koidin): Norwegian hospitality....I arrived in Stavanger, Norway. Vidar Austvik, the principal flute in the Stavanger Symphony and fluteteacher at the University, greeted me at the airport. Vidar and his wife treated me to a traditional Norwegian dinner, completed with dried meat and aquavit, a Norwegian liquor made with potatoes. They taught me to say thank you and count to 20 in Norwegian and introduced me to Norwegian flutes and repertoire. ...They were great players, and it was a treat and honor to play with all of them. It was an amazing exchange.
Stavanger Aftenblad
  • (Rasmus Reed): Exelent flutist..... It was an impressive concert, and it is not hard to understand that Vidar Austvik often is asked to come to Sweden to play in Chamber Music Groups.....Most impressive was the piece «Interplay» by Lasse Thoresen, a big piece which is very difficult. But Vidar Austvik and Kenneth Karlsson mastered both the technical and the musical challenges, and the piece became a mono mentaly masterpiece, a work that we want to hear again and again, to push yet deeper into. It was a great experience!
  • (Nina Tjomsland) Conductor Grant Llewellyn: The woodwinds in SSO are unique; we have made recordings of a concerto with a solo flute and solo oboe this week, and soloists are playing better than I have heard this piece on any recording.
  • (Torstein Gilje): New Music, Bjergsted, Vidar Austvik-flute & Njål Vindenes-guitar:....It was an excellent program and an equally fine performance .... Their attitude was striking similar, with temperament, a high level of technique and a musical nerve that got the music to vibrate.
  • (Torstein Gilje): Considerably more warmth was in the performance of Debussy: L’apres midi d’un faune, where the most is builded around the flute. This voice was excellent handled by Vidar Austvik, with lyrical, soft and carrying playing.
  • (Arnfinn Bø-Rygg) JS Bach: Brandenburg Concerto no. 5 with Sirkka-Lisa Kaakinen-Pilch...and the second movement «Affettuoso», was pure heaven to listen to. Flutist Vidar Austvik is a true master in playing different styles. As clear in style in this repertoire and this way of playing, as when he plays modern music.
Dagbladet (Oslo)
  • (Magne Hegdal): ....like Austvik and Karlsson gave in their superior musical interpretations of Stockhausen: "Tierkreiz", a pretty eruptive piece by Josef Sari: "Contemplazione", Thorkell Sigurdbjørnsson: "Kalais", and in a very characteristic and technical virtuoso piece by Lasse Thoresen: "Interplay" .
VG (Oslo)
  • (Kjell Skyllstad): ...The two players Vidar Austvik and Kenneth Karlsson are both members of the Aquarius-ensemble that visited the Capital during the Oslo days, and very competent instrumentalists
  • (Jarle Sørå):...Perhaps the most obvious thing about the playing of Vidar Austvik, is his rock-solid sense of form. But his technique also is unusually safe, and the expression includes both power and softness ... Virtuost did he master the Finn Mortensen: Sonate, op. 6. for Solo Flute. The work is very demanding, something you could not notice in the Austvik technically superior and refined playing.
  • (Synne Skouen) :Church Opera «Brønnen» by Egil Hovland.....Among the soloists, the flutist Vidar Austvik was one of the best.
Aftenposten (Oslo)
  • (Inger Elisa Reitan): ...He has a sleek, cultivated and at the same time warm sound in his flute, and with great expression power he gives his musical message
Nordlys (Tromsø)
  • (Einar Melvær): ...his dynamic and noble interpretarion. He really reaches the roots of the hearth.
